Are you Aligned?

Alignment is one of those words I keep hearing a lot lately.

Physical Alignment

Our chiropractor talks about our spines being properly aligned, in order to maintain optimal health in our bodies. Even a little misalignment in our spines can “interfere with the communications from the brain telling the cells, tissues and organs of the body how to function and be well.”

In the 5th & 6th week of pregnancy (which is where we are right now!), a baby is still smaller than a sweet pea, but already her spine, brain, and heart is being formed. Monkey’s spine was forming, at the same time I was just discovering she was in there. While I was still trying to wrap my mind around the idea of becoming a Mama, Monkey’s brain began to send signals through that tiny spinal cord, signals that told her heart to start beating! From the very beginning of your existence, the alignment of your spine is pretty important.

third trimester babyFor you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.”

Psalm 139:13-15

Week 5 - The baby is the size of a Sweet Pea

One of my pregnant friends had a chart explaining what parts of the baby were developing week by week. Each week she would pray for each of her baby’s organs and body parts as they were forming. Such a neat idea!

I had an iphone app which gave me that same information. Any given week you could ask me, “how big is the baby” and I could tell you what fruit or veggie size Monkey was. It was pretty cool, but instead of saying, “she’s the size of a sweet pea” I could have been saying, “right now, her heart is starting to beat” and be praying for Monkey to have a healthy heart, and a heart full of love for others, and heart for the lost nations.

Spiritual Alignment

We also come into alignment with God and His plan for our lives. We need to be in right alignment in order for the body (us) to clearly hear the message being sent from The Head (God). A little misalignment – a little false belief about who He is, or who He created us to be, can really effect our well-being, and keep us from living life to the fullest that God intended for us and bearing much fruit.

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.”

John 15:4-5
