Gambling With God

Already we’ve been asked cautiously “are you planing on having more kids?” To which we respond “we’re done playing the genetic lottery.” I’m pretty sure the risk of another baby with TCS, is the reason people are so careful in wording their question.

I’ve realized, when we talk about “playing the genetic lottery” it implies that with Monkey we won the lottery (she got the right genes), but with Lioness we lost the lottery (she got the wrong genes).

How can we say our miracle baby was the result of “loosing the lottery”?

I thought about this and realized, when God is our gambling partner, we always win. Every prize is different, unique, special in their own way. After all, we did get lucky that her TCS is so mild. Which makes us ask God: was it really necessary to spend 6 weeks in Portland?

Yes, the weeks waiting for the baby to be born were a much needed “family vacation” full of quality time with Monkey, and is already a fond memory of hers.

I made a photo book of our time in Portland, and I already had to staple it back together. Monkey loves “reading” the book: hotela! (hotel), elgadator! (elevator), train tracks! (street car), playground, finkler (fountain/sprinkler/splash park). The book ends with “baby Ah-sha-sha” and “I a big sisser!”

The past 3 months have been pretty crazy, but we’ll have a great birth story to tell Lioness when she gets older!
