God, Where Were You When…?

God, Where Were You When…?

Several years ago, I was minding my own business, loving my life. Suddenly, I felt God saying it was time to move on. But why would leave in faith, not even knowing where He was taking me? So I chose to stay where I felt safe and comfortable.

Then everything blew up, and I got very hurt. In the moment, it felt like God slapped me over the head, and said, “I told you it was time to move on. Now are you ready to listen?” Yes Lord! After that wake-up call, I was very ready. God handed me a wide open door, and I took it.

I never understood why God told me to move on. But I learned to obey right away, because who knows what God might do to get my attention?

I lived a lot of life since then. I’ve grown, changed, been healed, delivered, and set free from so much. I was recently thinking about that situation so many years ago. I realized how I perceived God, was not true to who He really is.

Suddenly He opened my eyes to see what really happened.

In that situation, it wasn’t that God slapped me over the head to get my attention. “I told you to move on, are you ready to listen now?” What actually happened was, God saw I was standing in the middle of the road, and a car was coming. So He warned me to get out of the road. My loving Father was trying to protect me from the situation which was about to unfold. But I chose to stay where I felt safe and comfortable. So I got hit by that car. Then God very lovingly, and graciously, picked me up and set me down in a safe place.

Now, when I hear Him say, “get out of the middle of the road?” I am no longer thinking, “or what? Are you going to do something bad to get my attention?” Now I know God is trying to protect me, because He loves me.

God is not a angry God who will hurt me, in order to get me to listen and obey. He is a loving Father who will warn me when I am in danger, because He wants to protect me. I can choose to not to listen to His warning, and stay and get hurt. Even then, He is not angry with me. He is sad for me. Then He picks me up out of the mess and puts me in a safe place where I can heal.

The revelation of what God actually did for me in that situation, that changes everything about how I view everything in my life.
